Right out of my old stomping grounds at Purdue . . .

Egypt's new prime minister is a Purdue alumnus.

Essam Sharaf received his Master of Science degree in civil engineering in 1980 then received his doctorate in 1984. Sharaf's mentor while at Purdue, Kumares Sinha, is a distinguished professor in civil engineering. Sinha said his initial reaction to the news was "delight, but also concern." "I feel very happy, but at the same time I'm concerned because it's a difficult task," Sinha said. "He can set an example for the entire Middle East by doing it right."
