On This Day . . . .

On this day, 46 years ago, my sister Patti was born. She passed away almost 8 years ago.

For the past 7 years, on her birthday, I have gone to a local park which is FULL of beautiful, old trees, and have let loose a smiley face balloon. Patti LOVED the smiley face icon (she had mugs, trash cans, buttons, and on and on and on) so I have always found it fitting to do this on her "earthly" birthday.

Today was a very windy day, so when I let the balloon go it did not take long to start it's ascent to it's destination. I always stay and watch the balloon as it floats away. It becomes smaller and smaller until finally I can no longer see it. I can only guess where it will end up. I thought, wouldn't it be bizarre if I went into work tomorrow and someone said that a smiley face balloon had ended up in their tree?

As I let it go this evening I wished her Happy Birthday - as usual - but also had a very calm feeling. I know she is so happy and that she probably no longer celebrates this day as her birthday. She probably celebrates the day she passed away and went to be with Jesus as her birthday.

So, I have decided that not only will I let off a balloon on her earthly birthday, but also on her heavenly birthday.

Happy Birthday Patti!!!!!

  1. I did not know you did this. I think it is a pretty neat thing to do and very creative. I like how you call it her earthly and heavenly birthday. I think about Patti everyday and I miss her smile and her laugh. It seemed she was always a very happy person. I know she is very happy right now whereever she is and she probably has a few cats with her to. Happy Earthly Birthday Patti!! We Love you!!

  4. Patti's birthday anniversary on Nov. 2 was also a special day
numerically speaking. The date, 11-02-2011 (11022011) is a palindromic
date. It reads the same forward and backward. A recent article in the
Chicago Tribune pointed out that there will be only 12 eight-digit
palindrome days this century. Just like Patti, her birthdate is special, but
not as special as she was.

  5. This is a great idea Kamie. This is a wonderful way to communicate and keep up-to-date. I shed tears at Patti’s beauty and the beauty of her family’s strong and caring love that created such a wonderful woman and wife. She was so caring and loved to help others. She loved to help make the world a better place.

I always saw the love you gave and showed Patti. She told me how she felt that sisterly bond grow over the years. I can tell you with 100% certainty, that she was proud of her relationship with you. She could always count on you in ways that is not realistic with parents. She thought the world of your kids and could not wait until the next visit. She loved visiting all her family and some of the best pictures of Patti are of her holding a baby. In a way, it makes me sad, yet I know having her own child was not in God’s plan. She truly loved you Kamie. Your mom and dad made two incredibly wonderful, beautiful, loving, caring, intelligent, and altruistic women of the highest caliber. They should be proud of the beauty they added to the world and how that beauty has continued by increasing the size of this family.

This site is another way to highlight how Patti had the best sister, mom, and dad anyone could hope, want, or pray to have. God bless this wonderful family. I ask this in Jesus’ name.
